AMON TOBIN 2.0
One of the coolest jobs of 2012 for me was Amon Tobin 2.0 at VSquared Labs. It was my second go at Amon Tobin’s Isam, having done a piece in the previous years show (“Nightswim”) – except last time I only had 4 days to make it. This time I had 5 weeks to make something awesome but was such a blowout ended up taking 9- UG! Anyway it was long and hard but it was a work of passion and it was a real privilege working with artists like Amon Tobin, Vello Virkhaus, Pete Sistrom, Carlo Sa, Jordan Halsey, Heather Shaw and ALL others involved (cheers to all!) at Vsquared and Vitus Modus. Got to directly work with Amon 3D digitizing him for the piece I was creating, “Bedtime Stories”- had a great session at the old Vsquared Labs Cleon studio and made some cool 3D models. In the final live piece a 3D virtual model of Amon in a spacesuit lays in his suspended animation chamber on his ship and after it is hit by a field of micrometorites, the ship begins to destruct and there is a seemless transition to where the REAL Amon Tobin in a spacesuit appears in the exact same position and rocks out the crowd- the effect turned out awesome! Anyway was a great project!
The above video is from Vice magazine’s Creator’s Project and I appear in the video consulting with Amon during a test run. There’s lots more info and videos at VSquared Labs!
Here’s some vids of my section- takes place in a space ship
From 1:15 to 3:25 is my section- took forever!!! (9 weeks!)
